The Aquinas Institute honored the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross with its annual Eucharistic Procession through the heart of Princeton’s campus on Sunday, September 13th.
More than 200 students processed together to Nassau Hall, asking God’s blessing on the University and joining the choir in singing hymns – among them St. Thomas Aquinas’ own words: “Adoro te devote, latens Deitas” (I devoutly adore you, hidden God).
Each year the procession draws more students, as well as townspeople and visitors to campus, to stop and watch or even join the crowds returning to the University Chapel for Benediction.
As our Chaplain Fr. Zack emphasized in his homily, the procession is “a visible proclamation” of the love and mercy revealed on the Cross, a mercy “offered to everyone: those who already know and love Christ, those who have wandered away, and those who do not yet know that they are searching for him.” He urged students to offer that same mercy within their dorms, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and friendships.
