Ephesians is the most eloquent of the letters attributed to St. Paul and contains some of the richest theological writing in the Christian tradition. Many of the themes from Paul’s earlier writings are recapitulated in Ephesians and expressed in a highly polished manner. In only 6 chapters (5 pages) Paul covers the mystery of God’s plan revealed in Christ, the universal Church, the relationship between faith, grace and works, holiness and morality, marriage and family, and Christ’s dominion over worldly powers and demons. Students will come away from this seminar with a greater grasp of St. Paul’s theology, as well as a richer spirituality rooted in their identity as God’s “beloved children” (5:1), chosen “before the foundation of the world” (1:4) to be built together into “a holy temple,” a community that is a “dwelling place of God” (2:19-22).
